Last month Julian Baseley, Chairman, Earlex headed to China with his team to exhibit for the 3rd time at the Canton Fair. It’s a great opportunity for Earlex to make their name known globally, to expand export contacts, promote British made for quality and learn about how greater ties with the world’s fastest growing economy could put the British manufacturing back on its feet.
The Canton Fair, organised by China’s foreign trade association, is China’s largest Import & Export Fair. After 60 years of having its doors closed to the western world, in the past 5, it has opened & welcomed western trade. This was due to an about turn by the Chinese Government, insisting the fair now welcome links with the West as it seeks to bolster its economy through imports as well as exports, the 109th Canton fair was its best yet - trading volume increased with over USD36 billion of deals signed as a result.
Julian Baseley had the exclusive privilege and was the only UK representative invited to speak with the Chinese Premier at the recent Canton Import and Export Fair. Earlex was the only UK manufacturer exhibiting at the show – a real accolade for the company, considering Canton’s 109th Fair saw a total attendance of 24,415 domestic and foreign exhibitors, 816 more than the previous session from over 53 countries, but a true and sad reflection of the real demise & lack of support for British Manufacturing.
Julian is at the helm of a company that believes although it might be increasingly marginalised in the UK; British manufacturing continues to be the most innovative and inspiring in the world. It is this advocacy of British made for quality, that the premier wished to discuss with Julian and how the Chinese can utilise its heritage, as Earlex has, to ensure that ‘Made in China’ is a statement to be proud of.
It’s clear after years of exporting to the world; China is now recognising the importance of imports. Earlex strongly believe British manufacturing is still a blueprint for success that the rest of the world wants to replicate and were proud to wave the flag for Britain at this incredibly successful show.
