Leading UK cast stone company Haddonstone is bucking the trend set by many of the country’s manufacturing industries, by continuing to make its products here in England.
Instead of moving production to faraway shores, Haddonstone manufactures all of its designs at a purpose-built facility in Northamptonshire. The company’s extensive standard collection of cast stone garden ornaments, including planters, statuary and fountains, is available in a number of styles, to enhance any outdoor space – from a small cottage garden to large formal grounds. Haddonstone also produces a range of architectural and interior features, including porticos, window surrounds and fireplaces, to add elegance to any building – whether contemporary, classical or traditional.
Marketing director Simon Scott said: “Britain has always been synonymous with manufacturing excellence and as market leaders we are keen to remain true to our heritage. While many of our competitors import some or all of their designs, we feel justifiably proud of our UK manufacturing base and feel we can still maintain a competitive edge by remaining here.”
Haddonstone has also gained a reputation for creating custom designs for restoration projects and the company’s work can be seen at locations across the country. For example at Leazes Park, the first public park in Newcastle, Haddonstone created eagles, urns, a pair of massive stone lions and statues representing music and poetry, using only Victorian postcards as references. The company also replicated the badly eroded original fountain at Eton College in Windsor, and has been commissioned to provide planters and other designs for a number of historic and listed properties, including those owned by the National Trust.
Notes to editors:
Haddonstone – the UK’s leading manufacturer of cast stone garden ornaments and architectural features – was formed in 1971. Production at the company’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Northamptonshire combines traditional craft skills with modern technology such as vapour curing. Designs are manufactured in a unique cast stone material containing crushed limestone, which is packed into moulds and left to harden to create an almost unlimited number of shapes.
Haddonstone is an innovative company, recently launching a range of contemporary planters in TecLite, a thinner and lighter alternative to Haddonstone. These pieces are ideal for rooftop terraces and balconies, where weight or access could be an issue.
Haddonstone is a member of ‘British Made for Quality’, an organisation formed to actively promote the British manufacturing industry and to campaign against its decline. For more information visit www.britishmadeforquality.co.uk
The company is also a founder member of the United Kingdom Cast Stone Association.
